ROP Group deals with machine perception, namely computer vision, tactile perception for robotic manipulation, perception from other sensory modalities, and cognitive approach to human-robot interaction.
In the autonomous navigation domain, we perceive the traffic from outside a car and from the ego-car (project UP-Drive). We are interested in situational awareness around a mobile robot (project TRADR) in robotic applications. In dual-arm manipulation with soft objects as garment pieces (project CloPeMa finished, followed by the project RadioRoSo) and perception in the Industry 4.0 context. Project Automatic Palette Jack has built a device serving the bricklaying robot.
In the human-robot interaction domain, we are interested in specifying tasks by language and gestures (Imitrob, Miracle, and iChores GACR and TACR national projects), representing knowledge about the world and tasks (CROW MEYS national project), and optimizing the schedules and motion plans for multiple robots.
ROP group was established in 2013 as a part of the Robotics and Machine Perception department of CIIRC CTU. From its inception until 2024, the group was led by Prof. Václav Hlaváč. The ROP group follows the tradition of the Center for Machine Perception (CMP), which was formed as an informal team within the Faculty of Electrical Engineering (FEL) in 1996 under the supervision of Prof. Václav Hlaváč. Since the creation of CIIRC in 2013, CMP has been bridging two CTU units: FEL and CIIRC. At CIIRC, particularly, the ROP and AAG (lead by Tomáš Pajdla) from the Robotics and Machine Perception department maintain close collaboration with CMP. Starting in 2024, the ROP group is headed by Karla Štěpánová.
