How does AI help “read” information in the brain’s white matter? 🧠

Milan Němý from CIIRC (CLARA Tenure Track Position Holder) appeared in a report by Česká Televize, where he discussed the research he leads. Together with other experts, his team is developing a tool that uses AI to interpret data from MRI scans and transform them into precise 3D models.

Through this work, Milan Němý, head of the neuroscience research group at CIIRC, is addressing a key question:

How can we detect subtle changes within thousands of data points that may precede the onset of Alzheimer’s or other neurodegenerative diseases?

💬 “We can use neural networks to identify pathways in these images with high precision—pathways that a human would have no chance of detecting on their own,” says Milan Němý.

Thanks to this approach, it becomes possible to determine whether a neurodegenerative disease is beginning, based on where AI detects changes across the brain’s white matter.

This technology represents a major step forward for the future of early diagnosis.

Researchers are continuing to test the tool and believe they are nearing completion. Within the next year, this AI could begin to be used directly by doctors in clinical practice.
