Researcher´s Night once again opened the doors of scientific and research institutions across the Czech Republic, giving the public an opportunity to experience contemporary science up close. Our institute also joined the nationwide programme, offering visitors an evening full of interactive demonstrations focused primarily on robotics, artificial intelligence, and human-robot collaboration.
The programme showcased the many forms modern robotics can take. Visitors could teach robots new skills using gestures or a joystick, trigger robotic actions by pointing, or try an unconventional way of controlling an industrial robotic arm. The programme also featured a humanoid robot using Vision-Language-Action models, automatic robot motion planning for welding, and technologies for photorealistic 3D reconstruction of scenes and objects.
There was also plenty of room for playful and interactive demonstrations. Visitors could play checkers against a robot, have a delta robot draw a picture for them, programme a robot to build a maze, or play with autonomous cars that react to a cube. The programme also included the RoboBar, demonstrating the possibilities of automation in hospitality, and the EDUARDIS project, which explores the use of artificial intelligence in teaching artistic skills. The evening also featured an archaeology pub quiz with Sara Polak.
This year’s Night of Science once again showed that science does not have to remain hidden away in laboratories. On the contrary, one of the best ways to discover it is to try it for yourself, talk to researchers, and see new technologies in action.
