Team from CTU won an international competition of models of autonomous cars

On April 11, 2018 a prestigious race of autonomous cars models of Formula 1 was held in Porto in Portugal. It was the second year of the competition organized by Pennsylvania University. Seven teams from around the world, including representatives from the USA, South Korea and Italy, qualified for the race.

The controlling and optimization algorithms that were created by the team of the developers of Prof. Zdeněk Hanzálek from the Czech Institute of informatics, robotics and cybernetics CTU and the students of the Cybernetics and Robotics program at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering CTU managed to pass the race route in 9.1 seconds. A team from the USA passed in 11.5 seconds and took a second place. ”It is an extraordinary international success of the CTU team,“ added Prof. Hanzálek.

The F1 / 10 competition includes the design, construction and testing of Formula 1 cars in decimal size. It can move up to 40 km/h. Small dimensions and low weight requires demanding design of parallel programs and effective implementation of reliable software.
