Keynote speach by Josef Šivic at the European Big Data Value Forum 2022

The European Big Data Value Forum 2022 was held in Prague with the title „At the heart of the Ecosystem for Data and AI“.

The European Big Data Value Forum (EBDVF) brings together industry professionals, business developers, researchers and policy-makers from all over Europe and other regions of the world to advance policy actions, and industrial and research activities in the areas of Data and AI.

This year, the event took place in Prague, Czech Republic on November 21-23. The EBDVF 2022 was organised by the Big Data Value Association (BDVA)IT4Innovations (VSB – Technical University of Ostrava)Plan4all and Charles University in Prague in collaboration with the European Commission (DG CNECT). It has been granted with the Czech Republic Presidency Auspice.

Among the speakers were scientists from our institute – scientific director Prof. Vladimír Mařík, director of the Research and Innovation Centre on Advanced Indusrial Production RICAIP Dr. Tilman Becker, Dr. Josef Šivic in the role of keynote speaker and Prof. Zdeněk Hanzálek.

Josef Šivic, started his keynote speach entitled „Czech AI Research, Impact and the European Perspective“ by saying that „a convenient myth is that research in Europe is great, we only need better transfer„. In order to stay competitive Europe should attract the best minds, create impactful ecosystems around leading AI research and bring Europe´s leading AI hotspots together. He summarised the Czech AI research highlights as a speach and NLP, computer vision, machine reasoning or robotics and the actual impact they have. The audience was presented with a very clear picture of existing AI ecosystem in the Czech Republic supported by examples of sucessful start-ups and spin-offs reached the global impact. And at the end of the day, the Czech AI is well connected to Europe through networks of research excellence centers as ELLIS, Taylor, Vision, Claire, etc.
