Prize for the Best Technical Innovation goes to the Testbed for Industry 4.1 Team

How to create an innovation in just 48 hours? This was the goal of the SICK Solution Hackathon held in SICK Sensor Intelligence Academy Campus in Waldkirch, Germany, on October 4 – 6, 2022. And between more than 100 young tallents from universities or startups comming from more than 16 countries, the  team Testbed for Industry 4.1 from our institute was selected to be the Best Technical Solution Winner.

They won the hackathon with the project dealing with assistive navigation for AGVs. Why are people controlling pallet jacks at an automated warehouse? That was the problem team Testbed for Industry 4.1 created a solution for during the time limit of 48 hours. The system architecture includes processing, navigation, inputs and more. Gesture and voice control are two of the approaches they worked on. But there are even more extensions to this application, like in domestic spaces or difficult terrain.

The hackathon was organised by the company SICK Sensor Intelligence and its industry partners that provided software and hardware, tools and experience, advice and knowledge to the competing teams. The prize for winner teams in the categories “Technological Excellence” and “Best Business Idea” was 2,000 EUR per team.
