Anotation

European Lighthouse of AI for Sustainability project emerges from the belief that artificial intelligence (AI) will be a key discipline to help us tackle the crucial civilisation challenges, such as climate and energy crises. It aims at establishing of original AI solutions that move towards a sustainable long-term future for our planet, contribute to a cohesive society, and respect individual rights. With its mission to galvanize the field of machine learning, ELIAS aims to prove itself as a central reference point by fostering collaboration among 34 active affiliates in this sector, along with a cohort of associated partners hailing from 17 different countries.

Project, encompassing Sustainable AI, Trustworthy AI, and Nurturing Excellence in AI, will strive for a deep integration of the fundamental research that takes place in academia and the more applications-focused research from industry. As for fundamental research, ELIAS will address key scientific questions about how AI can reduce computational costs, how AI serves to model effects of policy decisions on society, and impacts individuals. Ethical and societal concerns will be seriously taken into account too.

Furthermore, ELIAS will develop a Sciencentrepreneurship track, with the purpose of attracting and empowering talents at the interface of scientific innovation and business.

ELIAS builds on and expands the highly successful and internationally recognized European Laboratory for Learning and Intelligent Systems (ELLIS), and will develop its achievements.
