At the end of September, a ceremonial ribbon cutting and official start of operation of the Energynest hybrid power plant – an innovative energy source with the largest battery storage in the Czech Republic – took place in the village of Vraňany. This important moment took place in the presence of representatives of the state administration, industry, academia and foreign guests. The Decci group is behind the unique project, the CIIRC of the Czech Technical University designed the power plant’s control system.
In addition to Darina Merdassi, director of Decci, the ceremony was attended by Marcel Laďka from the Ministry of the Environment, René Neděla from the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the mayor of Vraňany, Mr. Martin Chmelík. British Ambassador Matt Field and CEO of Centrax, Kevin Steele, were among the guests of honour.
The financing banks were represented by Karel Mourek from Česká spořitelna and Radek Trachta from Komerční banka. The general contractor of the construction was Siemens, which was represented at the ceremony by director Eduard Palíšek. The Czech Institute of Informatics, Robotics and Cybernetics of CTU, which developed the control system of the power plant, also has a significant share in the project. Professor Vladimír Mařík, scientific director of the CIIRC, emphasized the key role of cooperation between academia and industry.
The control system of the power plant was custom designed by two research teams from CTU – the Energetics group led by Ondřej Mamula and the Optimization group led by Přemysl Šůcha. Not only professional staff, but also students of doctoral programs actively participated in the development. This project is thus an excellent example of successful cooperation between academia and industry in the field of innovative energy.
