After a testing period, an application was launched that can inform all students and workers at the Czech Technical University in Prague about any current security threat and the progress of its resolution – both across the board and specifically for people from just one faculty or a specific building.
The umbrella entity is the Security Department of the CTU Rectorate, which commissioned the service and collaborated on its creation. This information application also includes the so-called MicroGuard, which is able to send out information SMS messages according to the assignment and guide people in danger to the correct resolution of a risky situation. The application can also be used by the university-wide security team to communicate with the crisis teams of individual faculties and institutes.
This covers a wider range of dangers and emergencies, such as fire, water supply failure, the presence of an unwanted person in the building, etc. The pilot welcome SMS was sent in the system just today.
“I am very happy that we have made progress again in ensuring the safety of our students and staff. As far as I know, we are the first university in the Czech Republic that can use such an extensive and targeted information system and thus prevent unwanted panic in a crisis situation,” said CTU Rector Vojtěch Petráček.
After the recently signed memorandum on mutual cooperation in resolving crisis situations at the Dejvice Campus, this is another and very significant step towards greater safety for people at CTU and its surroundings. And this is entirely in the spirit of the motto “Safety is not an obstacle – it is the path to success”. The university has been working on security measures for a long time, but does not want to specify them specifically so as not to reduce their effectiveness.
