Lenka Lhotská received the Honor Fellowship of the International Union for Physical and Engineering Sciences in Medicine in Singapore

The International Union of Physical and Engineering Sciences in Medicine (IUPESM) elected assoc. prof. Lenka Lhotská, head of the Cognitive Systems and Neuroscience group at the Czech Institute of Informatics, Robotics and Cybernetics of the Czech Technical University, as Fellow of the IUPESM. The recipients of this IUPESM Honour were be announced at World Congress 2022 in Singapore in the end June.

This Fellowship is awarded for the first time this year and was designed for outstanding contribution to the international development of physical and engineering sciences in medicine. In its forty years, IUPESM has achieved the award of physical and engineering sciences through membership of the International Scientific Council, recognition of the professional profession of medical physicists and biomedical engineers through membership of the International Labor Organization and synchronized international activities of medical physicists and engineers to support global health. These activities would not be possible without the excellent voluntary work of many high-level experts. And it is for this activity that the union awards honorary Fellows for the first time this year for its fortieth anniversary.

Lenka Lhotská and her team at CIIRC CTU are engaged in research in a number of areas – currently early diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative diseases, 5G networks in medicine or the use of virtual reality in activating seniors. Lenka Lhotská’s research areas include knowledge systems, applications of artificial intelligence methods in medicine, digital signal processing, machine learning, semantic interoperability, mobile technologies in healthcare or electronic medical documentation.

Lenka Lhotská is also active in a number of Czech and foreign organizations. She is  a scientific secretary of the Czech Society for Biomedical Engineering and Medical Informatics, National representative in IFMBE, chair of the Europe Region of the Council of Societies of IFMBE, co-chair of the WiMBE WG of IFMBE, chair of the Women in Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering TG of IUPESM, chair of the Working Group Personal Portable Devices of European Federation for Medical Informatics (EFMI) and member of the EFMI Council, and National representative in International Society for Telemedicine and eHealth (IsfTeH). She was co-chair of the IUPESM World Congress 2018 and member of the PC EMBEC 2005, regularly she is PC member of international conferences on AI and ICT in health care.
