Two prizes awarded to Josef Šivic in 2017

Dr. Josef Šivic, CIIRC leading researcher, principal investigator of the Intelligent Machine Perception project (IMPACT), won two prestigeous prizes for his long-term contributions to computer vision research in 2017.

  1. The Longuet-Higgins Prize for the paper James Philbin, Ondrej Chum, Michael Isard, Josef Sivic, Andrew Zisserman: Object Retrieval with Large Vocabularies and Fast Spatial Matching, published at the conference Computer Vision and Pattern Recogntion (CVPR) in 2007. The prize was awarded at the conference CVPR in July 2017.
    The Longuet-Higgins Prize is an award given annually by the TCPAMI at the Conference on Computer  Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR) for fundamental contributions in computer vision. The award recognizes CVPR papers from ten years ago with significant impact on computer vision research.
  2. The Helmholz Prize for two papers
    Josef Šivic, Andrew Zisserman: Video Google: a text retrieval approach to object matching in videos, ICCV 2003
    Josef Šivic, Bryan Russell, Alexei Efros, Andrew Zisserman, William Freeman: Discovering objects and their location in images, ICCV 2005
    The prize was awarded at the International Conference on Computer Vision in October 2017.
