On Monday July 22, 2019, a distinguished roboticist, Czechoslovak expatriate, born in Bratislava, Doctor Honoris Causa of the Czech Technical University, Prof. Ruzena Bajcsy along with her Ph.D. student Ms. Laura Hallock visited Czech Technical University in Prague.

Ruzena Bajcsy, who is now 86 years old, is a professor at the University of California, Berkeley and still an active researcher in the area of robotic technology, namely measuring and extracting noninvasively kinematic and dynamic parameters of individual in order to assess their physical movement capabilities or limitations.

Prof. Bajcsy was invited and hosted by Prof. Vaclav Hlavac from CIIRC CTU. During the stay in Prague, both researchers visited labs of Faculty of Electrical Engineering (Dept. of Cybernetics and Dept. of Computer Science, host Assoc. Prof. Radim Sara) in the morning and dedicated their afternoon programme to CIIRC.

Prof.Bajcsy gave a lecture on Scientific methods in the backdrop of Data Science and Machine Learning (presentation of Ruzena Bajcsy) and L. Hallock on Non-invasive muscle modelling in vivo of humans leading to a model of dynamics of human behaviour (presentation Laura Hallock). Also the researched saw demonstrations of CIIRC research at our robotics laboratories.

During the discussion with CIIRC Scientific Director Prof. Vladimír Mařík the idea to organize a joint University of California, Berkeley – CIIRC CTU workshop related to Industry 4.0 and artificial intelligence arose, event to be held at CIIRC likely in June 2020.
