On the occasion of the ten-year anniversary of its foundation, the Czech Institute of Informatics, Robotics and Cybernetics at CTU prepared a three-day series of events at the turn of May and June focused on current topics: Industry 4.0 and artificial intelligence. Industry-AI Days 2023 will not only present the best of the institute, but will also connect science with practice thanks to the National Center for Industry 4.0 and the RICAIP center. Important guests from the Czech Republic and abroad accepted the invitation. Industry-AI Days 2023 are a combination of a professional scientific program, strategic meetings of the top leaders of the state, academia and industry, and educational workshops for companies and the public.

Ten years is not a long time in the context of the existence of the oldest technical universities. Nevertheless, the Czech Institute of Informatics of Robotics and Cybernetics (CIIRC) of CTU managed to make a significant mark in Czech and European science. Industry-AI Days 2023, which take place on May 30 – June 1, 2023 at the CIIRC CTU premises, will focus not on past milestones, but especially on the present. Important guests and the general public will be able to see, for example, the production of a model car in several places at the same time, watch the control of a remote robot via virtual reality or check how the cooperation between a robot and a person works. Visitors will also be able to participate in discussions with government and industry representatives or obtain qualified information on the currently exposed topic of artificial intelligence.

„Only ten years since its establishment, the CIIRC CTU intensively cooperates with foreign institutions in Europe and is part of leading international networks and European projects for artificial intelligence. It is already a distinct and respected center on the European research map. At the same time, it leaves a significant mark in Czech science and cooperates with other institutions and industrial companies. It is involved in the interdisciplinary creation of technologies with significant impacts on industry and society. We have more than fulfilled the goal we set for ourselves 10 years ago,“ says the institute’s scientific director and one of its founders, prof. Vladimír Mařík.

As part of the festive morning on Tuesday, May 30, the CIIRC CTU will present to the invited guests the concept of distributed modular production, which it is developing within the framework of the Czech-German Research and Innovation Center for Advanced Industrial Production (RICAIP). This approach will enable companies both to  optimize industrial production and dynamically adapt to sudden changes. Using virtual reality, we will also connect to partner laboratories DFKI in Saarbrücken and CEITEC VUT in Brno. Production demonstrations in the Testbed for Industry 4.0 will also be part of the program.

„The celebration of our anniversary is also an opportunity to thank and present honorary medals to personalities who have contributed to our institute,“ says Ondřej Velek, director of CIIRC CTU. „It is also an opportunity to meet our important partners from the academic sphere, as well as state administration, institutions and companies. Last but not least, we want to thank those who make the institute what it is. And those are our employees.”

The first day of Industry-AI Days 2023 will culminate by the National Summit of Industry, an already traditional conference co-organized by the National Center for Industry 4.0, which creates an open platform for discussion by key figures from the state, industry and academia. A number of personalities accepted the invitation to the panel, for example the Minister for Science and Research Helena Langšádlová, the president of the Union of Industry and Transport Jaroslav Hanák or the president of the AutoSAP Automotive Industry Association Martin Jahn. This year’s edition focuses on the presentation of concrete conceptual solutions for industrial competitiveness.

One of the domains of the institute is research in the field of artificial intelligence. The entire second day of Industry-AI Days will be dedicated to this: on Wednesday, May 31, at the AI Symposium, teams led by Josef Šivic, Robert Babuška and Josef Urban will present current research results focusing on machine learning, computer vision and intelligent robotics. The conference will be opened by Holger Hoos, a recognized expert on advanced methods of human-centered artificial intelligence and one of the founders of the European AI initiative CLAIRE. The program will be complemented by panel discussions that will focus on the trends and development of the AI ecosystem in Europe. The invitation was accepted by Patrick Peréz from France’s Valeo.AI and leading Czech experts in artificial intelligence, Tomáš Mikolov, Michal Pěchouček and Jan Hajič.

The 1st June will be marked by open doors. The AI Open Day afternoon program is intended for the general public, especially students, and also for anyone interested in the issue of AI and some of its aspects such as credibility, transparency or impacts on education and society. In addition to a panel discussion with experts from leading European scientific institutions, visitors will be able to see a number of interactive demonstrations and demonstrators with elements of artificial intelligence.

An expert program is also prepared for companies, especially those that are just getting ready for innovation: as part of the Open Days of the National Center for Industry 4.0 and RICAIP, the professional and business public can familiarize themselves with the ecosystem for Industry 4.0. They will learn how to create a strategy for digitization and how to finance it, where to find the right partners, technologies and innovation infrastructure. Not only this event also includes guided tours of Testbed for Industry 4.0 with demonstrators of solutions for Industry 4.0 created in cooperation with industrial partners.

Media representatives are cordially invited to these events. Please confirm your participation by May 20 to email alena.novakova@cvut.cz.
